Since then I’ve accrued 94 sea days sailing the eastern Mediterranean, Baltics, Norway, South America, Asia & the Caribbean. While their onboard experience has deteriorated substantially (now charging for room service, anywhere dining, & Alfredo’s pizza which used to be free) cramming more pay as you go fee restaurants & bigger ships, the pre-cruise experience is no better. I’m currently booked on a 16 night cruise to SE England, Ireland, Iceland, & Scotland on Caribbean Princess. To start with Princess no longer allows you to speak with anyone in the USA, it’s outsourced to the Philippines.

OceanMedallion, a small disk replacing the keycard, is used to open cabin doors automatically, embark and disembark, register food and drink preferences and many more, particularly when paired with several apps. Our only area of disappointment on Sky Princess was the service, which wasn't as good as we've come to expect from Princess. We encountered small snafus throughout the cruise and many crew members were not quite as friendly as we expected. The exception were the bartenders who were using the OceanMedallion onboard technology system to surprise cruisers by calling them by name, even when they'd never met before. With the exception of its buffet, which is fine but nothing special, dining throughout the ship is wonderful. Even if you never venture outside of the main dining rooms, you'll find enough variety to satisfy all your tastes.

Thankfully, there’s no wandering aimlessly around the buffet looking for a table, or from one deck to the other in search of a chair. Animal Planet- and Discovery Channel-branded shore excursions were passenger favorites. A Royal Princess review is not complete without a mention of its laid-back, mellow-but-fun atmosphere onboard. They didn’t organize many outdoor activities, which was a letdown. The cabin was clean, and the stateroom staff was very friendly. They certainly contributed to making the stay more comfortable.The food, unfortunately, was only mediocre, even with the upgrade to selective restaurants. Dining always seemed to take a long time, regardless of the hour or how busy they were. The service was inconsistent, with some staff not being as friendly as expected. However, one restaurant stood out with stellar customer service, making us feel like valued customers.My biggest disappointment was with the communication from the cruise line and the value I was getting for my money.
Very little vegetarian options.Worst bit is they closed dinning one day. Carnival,Royal Caribbean have alot better food, entertainment and rooms.Rooms have lots of safety hazards. Up top, passengers will also find an expansive Fitness Center and the adults-only Retreat Pool – an interior space tucked away ahead of the forward elevator bank. It’s the perfect complement to the additional-charge Sanctuary on Deck 18 forward, away – but never out of reach – of the well-designed World Marketplace buffet restaurant on Deck 16 aft. It's not trendy, but it's hard to be bored here -- that's enough for most Royal Princess passengers. And, if you receive service that goes above and beyond, adding to the recommended gratuity is always appreciated. Be aware that tips for bartenders, poolside servers, and professional services provided in the spa or elsewhere are not included in the daily suggested gratuity and may be charged automatically at the time of service. That doesn't mean that kids aren't welcome - or kept busy - when sailing on Princess. Families with children can take advantage of the line's Camp Discovery program, which provides age-appropriate activities and entertainment for kids and teens.
Spotty Wi-Fi hindered ordering drinks using the app in most locations or finding our cabinmate using OceanCompass. Similarly, bartenders or waiters rarely consulted iPads; most interactions used our room number, like always. The MedallionNet internet, billed as strong enough to stream, was inadequate to download email. The hotel director told us the system works better outside Alaska, but at least passengers on our sailing seemed to enjoy wearing the Medallions, even if they eschewed pulling out their phones.
